PHRYGIA. Apameia. Severus Alexander, 222-235. Medallion (Orichalcum, 39 mm, 34.67 g, 6 h), Po. Ail. Tryphon Hippikos, asiarchos. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡ СЄ ΑΛЄΞΑΝΔΡΟС Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander to right, seen from behind. Rev. ЄΠΙ ΠΟ ΑΙΛ ΤΡΥΦ/ΩΝΟϹ - ΑСΙΑΡΧΟΥ ΙΠΠΙΚΟΥ / ΑΠΑMЄΩΝ The hero Kelainos standing facing, head to left, holding short spear with his left hand and pouring libation from patera on to rock at his feet with his right. Imhoof-Blumer, Griechische Münzen, p. 145, 6. RPC VI online 5705. Extremely rare. The obverse slightly rough and somewhat smoothed, otherwise, good very fine.
